All guys trip to McLeodGanj

Finally it happened. My wish to go on a trip with (all guys) office friends came true. Though it took 7 years to happen, i just cant stop brimming from the happiness that it finally happened. Its not that my 'beautifully perfect' wifey was ever opposed to me going solo, its just that the plan[s] never materialized.

So when the McLeodGanj trip was conceptualized by Tyagi and tickets were booked, I was still very sceptical. Infact we did have a last minute scare with Tyagi almost backing out and the plan getting cancelled, but with divine intervention it finally happened.

We started for McLeodGanj on 3rd night, taking an HRTC Volvo. The journey took almost 12 hrs and by 8 AM in the morning we were at Bunker.

Yes Bunker was our going to be our home for next two days. If you are looking for cheap stay in Mcleodganj as well but one that is clean and offers delicious food, you should definitely consider The Bunker.

Our room
We opted for a mix dormitory which costed us Rs 450 per head per night. The manager (Sanjeev) was very friendly and cooperative.

They have a cafe on the roof which provides a chill place to relax and enjoy the evenings.

The best part was however their food - We tried sandwiches (paneer tikka, herb and cheese), cheese mushroom omlette, egg curry, egg biryani, shakes, dal tadka and ajwain parantha, and ofcourse the chai - and we relished each and every item. Be it taste, presentation or quantity - everything about food was perfect.

Well enough chiming about the food. Eating is not the only thing we did :P

We also did a lot of trekking. On the day we arrived (Sat), we trekked to Bhagsunag waterfall from Dharamkot. If you are looking to actually trek and not climb stairs in the name of trekking you should take this route as well. The waterfall itself is just ok but we enjoyed having Maggi while dipping our feet in cold water.

From Bhagsu waterfall we went to Namgyal monastery. The monastery though home to the Dalai Lama, is nothing much to talk about if you talk of architecture. It specially doesnt look like what is shown on holidify's page . Neverthless if you are on a McLeodGanj trip and wondering wht places to visit n McLeodGanj, you should add it your list. There are also many local shops and cafes near it to add to the flavor.

The night felt like trance. We spent it in the tent cafe of Bunker under the stars. Tyagi and Rahul were enjoying daaru, Hugo (our french  roomate) was high on weed, and Shubhraj (our pal we discovered on this trip) was adding color to the night with guitar. And I was sitting thr savoring every moment.

Taking a break - On our way to The Waterfall
On Sunday we had planned to trek to Triund and camp there at night. However due to some unavoidable circumstances we couldn't not go there. Instead we trekked to another waterfall north of Triund checkpoint (approx 2kms from thr) and it was very enjoyable. It was fairly tough, specially for someone like me who was trekking after many years. At some points on the trek there was very little margin for error, one misstep and you would find yourself in a ditch. The waterfall was very beautiful as well - a must visit. The whole trek took us 4 hours (non stop).

On Sunday evening we boarded the bus back for to face the piercing Delhi heat. It was a short but very contentful trip.

But thats not the end. The even better part was when wifey dear greeted me with a big smile and then served me garma garm aloo key paranthey. Wahhh!! Now thats what I call a happy ending.
