Visit to Udaipur and Mount Abu

View from inside City Palace
Planning to visit Udaipur and Mount Abu..think again. Well I am not advising against visiting them but you need to be clear on the expectations part.

If you are looking for relaxed vacation with a few spots to cover then you should certainly consider a trip to Mount Abu and Udaipur. However if you are looking some adventure and in a mood to explore then you might find sightseeing in Udaipur boring. If you are looking for scenic surroundings, clouds all around - a romantic retreat sorts, then Mount Abu is not exactly the place to go. But if you are looking to explore the local markets and eateries minus, pleasant weather minus the crowds, then Mount Abu will please you.I went to Udaipur and Mount Abu this month (March 2017). We were a group of 8 adults and during our tour of mount abu and uduipur, we spent 1.5 days in Udaipur and 1.5 days in Mount Abu. The best place to visit in Udaipur is the City Palace. Though they charge for almost everything - entry fee to museum visit fee to camera fee and what not, its a must visit. Also you should try out boating in the lake, preferably during sunset. The palace on one side and mountains with sun setting among them to the other side offers a view to remember.

Then we also visited Saheliyon ki bari which is essentially a pretty garden. Usually every city has once such place so you give it a miss.
Some other things to do in Udaipur (which we didnt try due to lack of time as well as enthusiasm) are riding the ropeway to Karni Mata mandir, Light and Sound show at City Palace and watching the traditional dance at Bagore ki Haveli.

The best place to visit in Mount Abu is Dilwara Jain temples. The architecture is just breathtaking. Also they dont allow you to take pictures which is a positive in the sense that it allows you to focus on relishing each and every carving. They also offer a free guided tour which helps you understand the background of various carvings.
Apart from that there is the Nakki lake which is congested and small compared to the lakes of Udaipur. Sunset Point is neither clean nor breathtaking. But what you will surely enjoy in Mount Abu is a walk on the main road leading to Nakki lake, window shopping on the way and sampling various food items.
